Back in September I was afforded the honor of speaking at the David Nasto Memorial Walk for Oral Cancer. In the past I have spoken with groups of art students, care givers and survivors but never a group affected by the same disease that I was diagnosed with back in 2007. I met and talked with some of the strongest, most amazing people ever. It changed my perspective and definitely changed my life. I drew in a bunch of books that afternoon and all the money raised went right to the cause. Just for fun we raffled off a guest appearance in one of my strips, that's right one lucky winner would be forever immortalized as a monster. When we pulled the the winning ticket I cannot tell you how happy I was to meet this wonderful young lady. I was even more excited to find out that she too was a budding young artist! It is with great pleasure that introduce you to the first official member of the "Cool Kids Club." A big thanks goes out to Susan Nasto Lauria for her dedication and for organizing such a wonderful event. I would also like to thank my fellow authors, Itzhak Brook, MD and Eva Grayzel, for their inspiring words. If you would like to make a donation to the 2013 Walk just click here.
Below: Some pics from the day. I jumped at the chance to draw on a pink fire engine named "Gemma!" You can see more photos from the event here. (click to enlarge image)
